We did it — Destination: Little Free Libraries is complete!
This summer, we were inspired to get Destination: This Moment to at least one Little Free Library in every state — and beyond, if possible. We set up the project page, forms for participants to request a copy for free, and asked family, friends, and professional network for volunteers.
We had no idea what to expect when we embarked on this quest, but we’re pretty sure we weren’t expecting to be done in less than 4 months. Everyone we talked to about the project was eager to help — my friends and LinkedIn network signed up to place our book in over half the states and international locations.
For the remaining states, we reached out to individual Little Free Library stewards using the Little Free Library map. We had a lot of fun seeing all the ways people made the libraries their own: recycled materials, artistic paint, quotes, plaques, interior lights, unique housing. The stewards we had the pleasure of connecting with were just as excited to cover the rest of the states!
Last week, we mailed books to the two last states needed (Alaska and Illinois) to bring this project to a close.
Here are some stats for the project as of today:
70 books shipped
54 participants
30 unique location photos received
40 total location photos (some states have multiple books)
It took just under 4 months to find people for each state, but our part is done!
This has been an incredible experience, and we’ve been absolutely delighted to hear such positive feedback from those who received and read the book before placing it in their library.
We may not receive photos for the remaining states, but just knowing Destination: This Moment is with someone in that state is enough for us 😊 If you received a book to drop off and want to share, feel free to submit your photo here.
